How many times can a single snap-cap be safely or effectively used?

I've never used SCs so I'm just curious...

TIA

I doubt that there's a single answer because there are several different designs available.

What's the reason that you want to use them?

I find that snap caps never act the same way in a pistol as real ammunition. They do not have the weight and, more importantly, the weight distribution of real ammunition. Most are also made of plastic which is very different from brass cartridge cases and bullets that range from lead to hard jacket materials like copper.

For dummy ammunition (to test functioning issues without any potential for an unexpected "bang"), I build my own using real bullets and cartridge cases but no powder or primer. I then mark the cases with a "magic marker" so that it does not visually resemble live ammunition.

You will find all kinds of information and opinions on snap caps on most any gun forum you may visit. It is a subject that many shooters are interested in. I have used A-Zoom Snap caps, made by Pachmayr myself for a number of years. There are several manufacturers of snap caps, and they all claim to be the best.

Thank you for this, having to re-rack each time for dry firing has become tiresome
However, racking an auto pistol - especially the LCP and other small autos - is a GOOD thing in that it wears down rough spots in the action. That, in turn, makes the pistol function better.

Unfortunately, Rich's trick does not allow either the the trigger to go full stroke for training of the trigger finger.
