rethinking LCP as my EDC

great thread running on another forum.....i want to get my elsiepea peeps opinion, My LCP is seeing about 90% of my edc rotation during the dog days of summer here in Texas. With the recent ISIS announcement of "drowning america with blood" and planning to blow up a large american city, senators admitting that a jihadist attack is imminent, i feel like i should be carrying my glock 22 with a 22 round xtra mag. what do y'all think, is the LCP still a viable carry option during this changing times?

For me, yes. I am not trying to be a wiseguy, but my opinion has always been this. The chances of me every needing my weapon are very very slim. The chances of me getting into some prolonged gun fight are probably about like getting struck by lightning. Just speaking for myself, I don't worry about lightning or long drawn out gun battles. yeah I'll jump on this train.... chances are slim at best you will ever shoot someone. But its nice to be prepared, if you feel comfortable carrying a big gun go for it... my elsie is weightless in my pocket, my pm9 in the pocket is doable but not a g26, some can I guess but its an iwb gun no doubt but comfy nonetheless, a handgun is used to evacuate to a bigger gun in the situation OP described...

It depends on how you approach carrying concealed. I dress for the occasion, weather and other circumstances, then I select the firearm that fits what I am wearing and doing. Much of the time, I carry a Glock 27 IWB. I do just fine with a subcompact in .40 &W. and would rather not downsize my energy and caliber, but during the dog days when I'm in light clothes, Elsie rides in my strong side front pants pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis.

Elsie and my XDm .45 compact are always in quick reach and are my EDC.

Didn't want to kick in until some other opinions were expressed. If we let the hate and threats of terrorists cause us to change our lives and live in fear then they have achieved their primary goal. All the armament a man could tote in a wheelbarrow won't be worth squat when a car bomb goes off. Vigilance and situational awareness are our #1 defense against any form of assault from a drunk aquaintance in our home to a WMD placed by a terrorist. Prevention is always preferable to violent confrontation. Drug Cartel gang members carry a ton of firepower and still manage to end up in a Morgue drawer pretty quickly.

But you did not address a Mall attack by multiple terrorists...that is a likely scenario & LCP would not be the best choice IMO if you were in the middle of that. I am loving my Glock 19 & have found a very comfortable holster that I can wear all day long & forget it's there. 33 rounds minimum at all times carried and possible 3 more mags as further backup.

I hear what you are saying. I agree most with the other posts about not really changing routines. I discussed and thought about that probablity just this morning.
Personally I have Elsie and a 9mm Solo that I carry with comfort. If one or two of these characters show up at a mall I am sure they will have superior fire power or explosives. They will be armed with offensive weapons I'm sure. I will do what I can to save my life. If I am close enough and lucky enough to get the drop, then so be it otherwise the objective is to get my a$$ out of harms way and live to fight another day. Even if winter and I have my PX4 Storm with 15 rnds and extra mags...I am splitting.

Mustanger, that is a possible scenario, true. OTOH thus far in America the mass shootings have been done by a single deranged individual, often heavily armed and sometimes wearing body armor. In that setting it seems likely the best chance of prevailing is an up close head shot taken from concealment because as soon as the shooter spots you as armed he's going to cut loose on you with a high-powered FMJ loaded semiautomatic long gun and it's real long odds against living long enough to get off more than a few rounds.

IMO Oreste and the other guys posting thus far have a realistic handle on what one man with a pistol is worth in a combat setting against a group of trained assailants with rifles and grenades.

Rotation? Why are you guys rotating? I rotate to fresh ammo every month due to the ammo being exposed to damp air and my sweaty jeans. Heck, it's hot around this neck of the woods. The main thing is....have your carry with you. And the LCP excels at that. You aren't going to out shoot a rifle with it or any other pistol anyway. M1911

We're talking hypothetical scenarios here and using past events as a basis for responses to possible future occurences. There have been a pretty significant number of cases of well intentioned armed citizens being inadvertently shot by Law Enforcement when they were seen with a weapon in hand. Same is true of uniformed LEOs accidentally shooting fellow uniformed LEOs in the chaos of a gunfight.

Sure wish Piers would "go missing" so Grace the Face could spend a week of evenings puzzling over the mystery. .......:chuncky:

Very good topic and it makes you think. If it is NOT comfortable you will not carry. A Glock or another 9mm or above with 3 extra mags is not comfortable. If there is a (God Forbid) Mall shooting I'm running for cover in a safe place and staying put until I KNOW all is clear. I carry for personal protection from a threat that is inches or a couple feet away and only if my life is in danger. This may call for another topic but groups such as ISIS want to kill as many as possible with the push of a button. The mentally ill in our society scares me more.

NotinDC; It's good to see women like her succeeding in that career field then being able to take the knowledge into the private sector. Long overdue. I think you'd agree that our initial scepticism was based on a complete lack of knowledge of her background credentials. I earlier alluded to the fact that firefights in this country too often result in injury to innocent bystanders as well as uniformed LEOs by fellow uniformed LEOs. We had a tragic repetetion of that in Orlando just a few days ago. I certainly don't have the knowledge base to expound on solutions for this problem but am sure that chaos, sensory overload and adrenalin surge are factors in all such incidents.

Guess about the only thing in the way of shared opinion on this discussion I am certain of is the commentary regarding the "value" of the thoughts expressed by Piers and pretty much all of the "Talking Heads" on both sides of the American media industry.

I'm a believer you should carry the largest caliber you can conceal and shoot well/accurate. For me that is an LC9 or XDS IWB. Better calibers, easier to access, I can conceal easily IWB, and I'm more accurate with them than the LCP. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

As well you should 'cause you're right on target........

But..........

....................OTOH...........

................................an accidentally self-inflicted wound from a .380 hurts less..........................:biggrin-new:

PS;....and the lower accuracy factor means you might even get lucky and miss..................

I'm not as concerned with terrorists as I am the drug addicted crack heads that are more and more prevalant in our society. The trheat of terrorist is very real, and should that happen, I don't think I'm much of a match for them, unless its a terrorist wanna be, and that's a different story. I am concerned about protecting against the gangbangers and druggies, I'm ready for them.

Count me in the camp that carries for "personal protection" which to me means a mugger, etc. My LCP nor my XDs .45 is going to be a match for a terrorist with a fully automatic rifle. Plus, it is more likely said terrorist is going to have an explosive device that he/she will detonate. No weapon I could carry is going to protect me from that.

smart man.... I think it is wise to carry while at home though I admit need to practice this as well... My wife's late step-dad had been a victim of home invasion and barely escaped with his life being beaten severely.... He lived the rest of his days with various weapons placed around the house for access, as well as a little Beretta .25 on his person at all times, that .25 my wife inherited and resides in the safe....
