Has anyone filed down the LCP mag button to prevent accidental mag drops? Did you do it with the button in the gun and what did you use to reblue it. Any pictures of the finished product?

I naturally position my thumb low for some reason.I don't want to shoot my LCP apart learning not to. Under a stressful situation I don't want to be left holding the bag.It only happened once to me but I saw another LCP do the same thing to someone else.

Seems to me I read recently about someone taking a file and GENTLY removing metal from the mag release button. There is no way I'd be willing to do that on my LCP and I'm not recommending that you do it on yours. I'm just saying that may be one way to accomplish what you're after. I've also heard that grips such as the Hogue Handall and the Pachmayr may raise your grip sufficiently so your thumb just clears the mag release button. But I'll say it again. If you're not 100% confident gripping your LCP naturally when you draw it, YOU have the wrong gun.

By the way, if something about the LCP makes it difficult or impossible for me to get to the point that I'm 100% confident with it, I will NOT take it personally. The gun has not been invented yet that's perfect for everyone. When it comes to a gun I may have to depend on to save my life or the life of others, there is NO MARGIN FOR ERROR. I either have to know I can depend on it or I have to get another gun. I can gather all the opinions and data I want to about it. But at the end of the day, I'm the only one that can make that decision. And I alone am responsible for it.

I have owned a lot of mouse guns that had one malfunction or another.I agree with you about not feeling 100% about a gun, don't carry it.That is why I,m not giving up this particular LCP.It has been 100% except the one mag drop. I feel this can be overcome with a little mod. Nothing about it would affect safety.Besides,it's a replaceable part.(though it sounds like you have to disassemble the gun to do it)Just would like a little advice from someone that has the same issue.

I hear you. If the mag release button were the only thing standing in my way, I'd be looking for solutions too. I just feel very differently about a self-defense weapon than practically every other possession I own. A self-defense weapon simply has to be right. Most of my other possessions can stand to have a little wiggle room . . . including my wife! ;-) Lord knows she's had to put up with a lot of wiggle room in me.

Pennsy, get yourself a hand grip installed and see if it will make it a little higher so your thumb don't hit the release button. I would do that before I would get another pistol. :encouragement:

I put the Pachmayr Tactical grip Grove on my LC9s pro .It was OK for IWB but for pocket no way. The Lcp, being smaller, my not present the same problem. If my Traction tape doesn't work out, the Hogue is my next choice to try.
