Failure to extract

Starting to get a lot of failure to extracts lately, doesn't matter which brand ammo I use. Round only partially extracted out of barrel.
Any suggestions?
Gun was bought used, so no idea on number of rounds shot, but I have put over 1000 through her.
I always clean and lube thoroughly, (including with a wire brush around extractor) have polished ramp and barrel, installed new BT guide rod with wolff #13 spring
Using ruger mags.

Think I might order a new extractor and extractor spring since it is only $8
Pics of current extractor below (massively big and slow pics so i didn't embed)

Zoom in and look at wear on bottom of slide just to the left of extractor on this one?

Check out wear on top of slide near extractor

Your Elsie is basically equipped like mine, and I've never had this problem. Other than a thourough barrel brushing & cleaning (which it sounds like you've done), you are probably experiencing an extractor issue like you said. That is too advanced for this guy, so I wish you luck in correcting the problem. Have you called CS in AZ yet? Might want to talk to a technician before proceeding. Good luck. Yogi ;D

If you can tell us the first 4 of the serial, we should be able to get you a rough manufacture date (based on RichGCoop's bookkeeping). Also, just out of curiosity, do you shoot much steel cased ammo?
372-29xxx

no steel

usually shoot winchester white box, or pmc bronze (aluminum) or federal at range

SD rounds are hornandy ftx

Your photos are not clear enough for me to be sure, but it looks like your extractor's shape is not quite right. It's possible that someone has loaded a lot of cartridges by dropping them into the chamber and then slamming the slide home over them.

Because extractors can be really fussy if not fitted and shaped just right, I would suggest that you call Ruger and see if they will solve your problem for you - correctly the first time. There could be more wrong than just a worn extractor.

Jamming of the pistol can be the result of several things; we would need to examine the pistol to determine what is causing this issue. We recommend returning the pistol to the factory for examination and repair. You will need to send the complete pistol UPS or FEDEX to: Customer Service 200 Ruger Rd. Prescott Arizona 86301. Please include a note stating the problems you are having with the pistol. Please include all your contact information on that same note. If required repair is found to be manufacturing related, it would be done at no charge. If it found not to be manufacturing related an estimate would be sent to you. The service is $35.00 labor $30.00 return shipping, plus the cost of parts needed. The average turnaround is approximately 10 to 15 business days.

If you should need further assistance please call our Service Department at 928/778-6555 between 8:00 - 4:00, MST Monday thru Friday, at a time convenient for you. A Ruger Representative will be happy to help you.

GREAT to see you fixed Elsie. Let us know how she did at the range.

Well, I put 2 boxes of federal ammo and 1 box of pmc bronze through elsie today without issue for the most part.
Me and buddy had the final 4 rounds left and we decided to each load 2 in a magazine and were practicing quick target acquisition to see who could get the 2 best shots off and his jammed on the 1st round and so did mine. So I figured it was from being dirty and blew it off since I went 146 rounds before that without any issue. So next range trip will confirm but I think I got it fixed ;D (later I manually ran 2 magazines worth of rounds through it after cleaning without issue)

Here is a pic of my best shot groups today with Elsie. The Lower left target is mine at about 10 yards. If you run target all the way down range it's 30 yards so we figure each "V" painted on the wall is a 10 yard mark. The other targets are buddy with his Kimber 9mm and me with LC9. We use the same paper target almost the whole time, and only replace the splatter targets, that is why the paper targets look like a shotgun hit them..
