Here in NY under Schumer and Clinton, I had NO hope of any "email campaign" or "fax campaign" to MY senators having any effect whatsoever. I always knew what their vote would be - 100% wrong.

Now, we've got a new Senator, in Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, NRA-backed, and "not entusiastic" about Gay marriage! In NY, this is the BEST possible outcome, and I have a new respect for Governor Paterson, after all the talk about Caroline Kennedy (talk which almost made me puke.)

This will be a big help against the coming "common sense" gun legislation we keep hearing about. In particular, when they talk about NObama having a majority in the senate, his count will be -1 on anti-gun legislation (Gillibrand has an "A" rating from the NRA.) I'm amazed that this happened in the Socialist Republik of New York.

Congresswoman Gillibrand's precinct borders Vermont, I imagine that's where she gets some of her less-than-commie ideas. Her precinct surrounds, but doesn't include, Albany, which is certainly NOT where her gun-views come from.

She will be running state wide not district wide. She will run in New York on the democrat line and will win. Only bad possibility is that Andrew Cuomo may challenge her in a primary fight for the Democrat line.

Voting for a Republican senator is a wasted vote, so I suspect a lot of conservatives will throw their support her way, giving her a lot more strength than a true-blue liberal Democrat. I don't know enough about her (voting record on other issues, etc) to know what to expect, but she's already better than I had hoped for.

most analysis don't think she can win, they don't feel she can raise the necessary amout of capital to run and win. ur right it is state wide. just my 2cents worth.

Andrew Cuomo will now likely challenge Patterson for the Dem nonination for Gov. If the new Senator has the Dem line she will win. Republican party in NY is in shambles. Possible exception is Rudy on the Repub line and I'm afraid the new Dem Senator is better on guns than Republican Rudy.
