I carry a Kimber Warrior daily. The LCP is a BUG. The choices are narrowed to what I'm wearing--and where I'm headed.
Pistols are not the preferred choice for bringing to a gunfight. That being said, the most effective caliber you have is the best choice, should a fight develop. But, you still have to balance that with a little common sense and practicality.
When I wouldn't carry any other gun, my NAA .22 revolver is in a pocket clip. Would I CHOOSE that to take to a gunfight? Oh, heck no! But I'd be mighty grateful to have it if it was my only choice at the time.
When conditions permit, the LCP lives in my pocket. I'd be happier to have it than the .22--if it was my only option.
More clothes/higher threat potential, my Scandium .38 Airweight with +p Nyclads and a couple speedstrips is my choice.
Need still more? My Scandium Commander with it's favorite load: SXT's--mags as needed.
If I'm working: The Kimber, 3 mags, 3 knives, the LCP, Taser, spray, ASP, AR-15, Rem 870, and a radio.
In sum: "All of the above" is my answer. 8)
I carry the most gun I can--and I carry one all the time. My choice is dictated by my evaluation of the threat--and my appreciation of my gun choice to meet that threat.
