We are blessed and cursed by our desire for an extremely popular product. In other threads you can read about what Ruger has done to improve volume. I think I read somewhere that they produce an LCP every 52 seconds.

If you are having trouble finding one locally, you might try GunBroker. That's where I bought mine. The last time I checked the closed auctions list for the last 30 days, several had sold for less than $300 and some auctions provided free shipping. You will need an FFL agent, of course, and a list can be found at GunBroker as well. I found one that does my transfers for $12.50 each.

I have had mine for a while now. I can assure you, your patience will be rewarded.
I think its totally dependent on what shop you look at and what part of the country you are in, there is a shop here in New England and is a HUGE shop but I suspect that he doesn't sell a lot of Ruger products or something because he has a wait list that is more than 40 people long currently and says that he doesn't know how many he will get in at a given time, it could be 2 it could be 4, then theres a small shop not too far up the road that I was recently made aware of through one of my wifes friends husband and that shop had one in stock when I was there and had more coming in and while I was there heard him order "6 more for Friday", then yesterday I was about an hour away from home and stopped in another hole in the wall but busy looking shop and he had 3 LCP's on hand and told me he sells 2-3 per week and that he usually has them on hand.

I say shop around looking in all of the shops in your area and you will likely be able to find one or two just waiting to be taken home.

Note that different dealers favor different distributors, for whatever reason. I've had some success with hard-to-get arms by encouraging my dealer to go to a different distributor (where I know it is in stock), or by using my publisher (Scott Duff) to get the arm for me, then transfer it via my local dealer (Scott is in the next state over).

Walt
There is another thing.........which I hesitate to mention, but feel I ought.

Most LGS will "prioritize" their customers. And, not in a neutral way!

I'm getting the call as soon as a new batch comes in, because a family member is in love with my new Elsie. We got put on the top of the waiting list--I'll wait only as long as the distributor takes to ship. The same thing happens whenever one of the "regular" crowd is after a new gun.......

We generally see deep discounts, get things early, and get calls when fun new toys come in to play with.

Probably the biggest reason I can imagine for cultivating a relationship with your favorite LGS.

Of course, my wife would literally kill me if she had any idea how much I have spent there..............good thing most of my toys are "black guns" to her! The Elsie looks just like my Kimber to her. ;)
Bought two in the last two days at my local Cabela's........When I picked up the second one this afternoon late, they told me they had now sold out of the 140 they had received on their last shipment. No one else around Fort Worth area has any that I can find either!

Is that 4 LCP's for you now Picketeer? ??? Didnt you already have 2? I think you are buying all of them, then you are gonna sell them to all the members on elsiepeaforum, that dont have one yet.LOL ;D Thats very nice of you ;D ;D
Went to a gun show today in Austin. I found two LCP's, at different tables. Both new. One was $330 and the other was $389. Fortunately, I had bought mine at Academy Sports for $279.
Sold both of them but I still have two!...........One of them went for $400.00!
What better time to register that to say, I got mine today.

I did wait about 6 weeks, this dealer had me down for #7 on his list. They are obviously shipping, but it takes some checking around. The first dealer sold mine out from under me when they informed my wife it was in, and she said " He doesn't need another gun!" They were the highest priced around, no loss. Academy has consistently checked the 100 store inventory and found very few in inventory at any one time, they run $279 - 299. Another store locally has gotten back into hunting firearms instead of being a Carhartt warehouse, but handguns aren't their thing, $285.

Find the guys who sell handguns, especially the LEO providers, they are probably your best bet. My dealer was $262, a little more change that a interweb transfer. Having started to build a valid buying relationship, I can go back with other requests, and not be just another browser.
I feel your pain Harley07.....I too was in the hunt for an LCP, but hunt in itself is the fun part. It's worth the wait. There's been times when I could of settle for a Kel Tec. Gunbroker would be a good place to try. Good luck on your search!!!
I just had to shop around, found a good dealer and he seems to get them on a regular basis. I did have to wait a couple of weeks............some dealers almost laughed at me when I unwittingly asked about purchasing an LCP.

Scalping LCP's! How cool. 8)
I picked up my LCP this AM-- I have been on the list for a long time. The store I got it from told me they haven't received any for two weeks and then Wed. night they got a hold box full-- I don't know how many that is but its a bunch. They even had them in the counter. I never seen that before. I know they, not to long ago had a list of over 60. ::)
I used one of the larger retailers (Outdoor World). They seem to get large shipments and clear their backlog somewhat quickly. I also paid for it up front and had to wait 5 weeks! At least I finally got it though, and they seem to treat every one equally as far as being on the "paid for" list. It was worth the wait!
Please look in Gunbroker.com, I bought mine months ago at a gun shop who was advertising a low price...they had had 25 of them at the time...I know that to be true because they were old customers of mine when I was i the wholesale gun business for many years..at this time they seem to have the LCP around $300.00 up + shipping and local FFL fees..if you want one that bad then spend a few extra $ and get what you want...You only go around once so satisfy your needs....its a great unit and I usually carry it loaded with Mag Safe ammo..it t whacks like a .45 when hit...its pricey but the best for self defense I have used..
good luck
My dealer in Pflugerville, Texas hasn't seen an LCP in three weeks. I'm still #14 on the waiting list. :'(
Cabela's has LCP's in stock. Every time I have been in the local Cabela's the last two months there is one in the display case, I bought one myself.
If your local Cabela's does not have one in stock they will get one from another Cabela's location for you.

that's right. the time to buy an lcp from cabelas was when they were handing out $75 gift cards for buying one....i believe that was last month.
