These orphans are great test beds to play with.
Kroil then WD Specialist Rust Remover Soak.
Filing and emery type cloth have been used so far.
I am a total amateur at this, so others posts are really educational. Thanks for them.

This is 1/2 - 13 thread. Maybe common on automobiles? Wish it were 1/2 x 20.
Might have been for a lawn mower muffler?

Welders "bungs" screw right on. Maybe a future there...

Hey, when you get it to work properly, it'll be a good truck pistol. Do you have all the parts for it?

It does shoot. I am trying to figure what I could do with that mangled muzzle.
50 some years ago in high school shop class I would have turned down that bung and added a sight. There is a place in town that does black oxide metal finishing. How would I seal the bore properly for that?

I don't do any parkerizing, only rust bluing, but here's what I do to protect the bore. I'll use a bore "mop" for the particular bore and swab the bore with shellac, at least three coats after the first two dry. Then, after the bluing is done, I'll rubber cork both ends after filling the bore with acetone to loosen the shellac. It works very well to protect the bore from the rust bluing and boiling water bath, just might work for you.

I would have never known.
Is that a tapered cork or more like a wad cutter bullet shape?
I'm thinking of if the crown should get blued.

It's a tapered rubber stopper actually, and I get them at the local ACE Hardware.
