I test fired my LCP at the range today, now that it's back from the recall. The trigger is fine and the gun shot great.

However, the new magazine with the finger extension failed miserably. I fired two rounds and then the hammer fell with a click and no bang. I racked the slide and no case or cartridge was ejected. There wasn't a round in the chamber.

A new round went in the chamber when I racked the slide and it went bang like it was supposed to.

Then the gun went click again. No round in the chamber.

What the heck?

It turnes out that my big hands with my big middle and ring fingers barely fit on the front of the grip strap and they're squeezed by the magazine extension. My fingers were pushing down on the bottom of the mag enough that it wouldn't load a round into the gun when it cycled.

I tried the other two standard mags and they were fine. A buddy with medium sized hands had no problem with the extended bottom mag.

If you have big fingers, carefully test fire your LCP with the new figner extension magazines please! They won't fail for everyone, but it sure failed for me!

Test fired after recall, new magazine disconnects after every shot. I didn't have an old magazine with me to see if this only happens with the new magazine with the finger extension. I sure hope so. ???

Just got mine back today and put 50 rounds thru it without mags dropping out which was a problem before, By the way I was using 2 extentions from Elsi-Pea store which are longer than the one Ruger sent back. The Ruger extention also stays in so they did a mod to the latch somehow.

At the range yesterday, I also experienced the magazine coming out of battery resulting in a "CLICK". It took "tap-rack" to get the pistol to function again. As described below in previous posts, it occurred only with the Ruger magazine with finger extension. My friend also had an LCP but placed a Pearce extension on his magazine and did not have any failures. The crimson laser made the Ruger a tack driver at 7 yds, especially with Hornady Critical Defense ammo. Obviously, I need to get the proper mags in place before I consider the LCP for CCW use. I used to have a Kel Tec P-3AT 380 and the Ruger LCP seems to handle much better with less recoil than the Kel Tec (same ammo used in both), has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the forum Dave,
The mag dropping issue is not a new issue on here, it actually is getting hard to keep track of which posts are which. The issue actually is with the mag catch rather than the extension but it appears that the tension on the finger extension is causing the mag release to slip out of the notch in the magazine,my personal belief is that because it is shorter and would cause more downward pressure we are seeing the issue more with the Ruger extension than the Pearse.

This is my first post on any firearms forum. Wife and I fired 50 rounds from her new LCP today. I unintentionally dropped the finger extension equipped factory magazine once. She had no problems. Different hand size? I prefer my ported Taurus 85 38 revolver and plan to try the new Ruger LCR. Wife prefers her LCP. Two happy campers here.
