My EC9S came with an orange dummy training magazine. With the orange mag inserted, racking and dry fire practice becomes easy because the slide doesn't lock back like it would on an empty mag. Also the magazine disconnect is disabled.

Does anything like that exist for the LCP? Specifically, I've got an LCP Max and an LCP Lite Rack in 22LR.

Thanks...

I belief the purpose of the orange dummy mag for the L/EC9s is because you have to dry fire for disassembly.
Ruger is extra cautious with that. I've never seen the orange dummy with any other Ruger pistol.
The LCPs don't require a dry fire for takedown, so I assume there is no dummy mag.

That sounds like 3d printing would be your solution. Based on True Grit's comment, it also sounds like you might be the first person to come up with a reason to need one.

I did a Galloway trigger kit on my LC9s, and that eliminated the magazine disconnect, but I still store it with the orange dummy mag in place, just out of habit.
Looking through the ejection port, with the slide open, I don't see the top of the dummy magazine engaging anything, I have to take that to mean that it would be engaging only the missing magazine disconnect mechanism.

You might be able to make a dummy magazine out of the body of a regular mag. Remove the follower, and maybe chop/cut/grind the top of the feed rails off so that only the magazine disconnect is engaged when it is installed in the pistol.

You'll need to paint it or in some way make it very obvious that it is not one of your regular magazines that functions with live ammo, for safety.

Yes, I've seen the EC9S orange magazine labeled the "takedown" magazine, so that makes sense.

I guess I'll just stick to snap caps for dry firing. Or, since I have the Lite Rack model too, just shoot 22LR for live practice instead of dryfiring the .380...cheap enough.

Thanks....

For a dummy mag in my LCP Max, I removed the base plate of one of my mags, pulled the spring and follower, and inserted a 9mm casing. Then put the mag back together, spring and follower and all. Casing holds the follower down, so it won't lock the slide back.

Take a look at BarrelBlok at:

It is a plastic snap cap with a rod out of its tip, long enough to protrude from the barrel of the pistol - so you can see it as you are dry firing. It doesn’t block the sights, it is just there reminding you there is NO cartridge in the chamber.
It comes with a plastic ‘cartridge with a length-wise scoop out of it’ to put in the magazine to keep the slide from locking back.

I have one in .380 for my original LCP (or any other .380) and one in 9mm for my 9’s.

I have no stake in the company - just a satisfied customer.

I do not recommend dry fire on the LCPII Lite rack, .22lr. It says is=t is Ok, but many people have had a broken firing pin when doing it. Ask me how I know!
Not a good idea to dry fire 22lr or any other rimfire without a snap cap. Rarely a problem dry firing center fire weapons.
