New user and first time post.

Well darn. I purchased an LCP with Lasermax laser and took it to the range for the first time on VDay.

Shot 150 rounds of Federal and Magtech ammo.

1. I had 4 FTE which were in the first 30 or 40 rounds. All cleared up after 30 to 40 rounds.

2. I had about 3 times where I had to push the slide closed because the round would get stuck in the feed ramp. All that cleared up after about 40 rounds.

3. Within the 150 rounds though I had an serious issue.
I would load a magazine and rack the slide. A round would load in the chamber. I will pull the trigger and no pressure on the trigger. I would eject a live round, load another round in the chamber and the trigger would function properly. The way I would rack the slide would be pull it all the way back fully and sling shot it and a round would load.

4. Laser would go dim and then bright after I shot it. That happened about 3 times. The CS lady said that it probally needs new batteries.

I called Ruger and they emailed me a shipping label. It shipped out today. The customer service lady told me once they received the pistol it would be about 2 weeks.

Arrrggggggggg. I really wanted this pistol to work right out of the box so I feel good about it.

Any advise on the issue #3 ?

#3 happened about 4 times.

I would load a magazine with 6 rounds and rack the slide. A round would load in the chamber. I pulled the trigger and no pressure on the trigger. It was like the firing pin was not cocked. I would pull back the slide and a live round would eject out. Another round would load in the chamber and the trigger would function properly. I would shoot the remaining 5 rounds from the mag.

Welcome to the Forum, ArmedMike.... Sorry to hear you're having issues with your LCP. But on the bright side, it is a new gun...and it is a Ruger. You have a good warranty and Ruger has an excellent CS record. They will fix it. So, hang in there: This too shall pass. :)

Welcome to the club Mike! As the old saying goes, "All's well that ends well." I'm sure when you get Elsie back it will function perfectly, and you will join the ranks of us happy campers! Fret not, Ruger is good with solving these problems!

Ruger may not be the best boyfriend but when he messes up, you'll always get chocolates, flowers, and a true apology and promise that it will never happen again. That's generally enough to appease miss Elsie.

What precisely do you mean by "FTE"? There are two typical meanings for that abbreviation, and they don't mean the same thing. One is "Failure to Extract" and the other is "Failure to Eject".

It sounds like you have not been cycling the LCP's slide with enough gusto. You really need to "slingshot" the LCP's slide. The way I do it is to hold the slide with my left hand and then very rapidly push the frame forward with my right hand until the slide is actually yanked out of my left hand.

I suspect the problem related to the above scenario. If the slide is not FULLY in battery, the trigger will not engage. Same solution as the above situation.

As I was told "Man Handle It"! Rack hard, and pull the trigger back like your trying to break it. Oh yeah, did you rack it about a 100 times before your first range outing?

1. I dont know. I shot a round and it didnt load another round from the mag. Like it hung up.

2. I was pulling it all the way back and letting it go forward. Wasnt holding it or babying it.

3. I dont think so that this was the issue cause because of #2. I would do the same and pull back the slide and let it slam forward loading a round. I also locked the slide back and then put a mag in and released it forward loading a round. Each time with both ways I had the trigger with no pressure. I would eject a live round and then it would function properly on the trigger.

#1 needs some more detailed description. Where was the spent cartridge when the pistol hung up? Was it still in the chamber (either fully or partially)? Was it out of the pistol and the next round was not fed properly?

Regarding #2 - many LCP owners need to do what I recommended. That's a more vigorous action than simply letting go of the slide when it's pulled to the rear.

Regarding #3 - If you are absolutely sure that the slide was all the way forward when you had the trigger problem, you should get on the phone with Ruger's customer service department right away. If the slide was not all the way forward, the trigger will not cycle the hammer. That's part of the safety design of the LCP. You certainly would not want to fire a cartridge without the slide in full battery (ALL the way forward).

FWIW I had problems w/fail to extract when I first got it. It went back the first time and came back even worse. I asked for a replacement gun when it want back the second time and they sent me a brand new LCP. No problems since then, it functions with everything I shoot. Ruger customer service is good so they will make it right. Be sure and let us know how things turn out.

Slingshotting and slamming the slide foward until its almost yanked from ur hand? I don't mean any disrespect but I do not think this excessive force should be necessary on a properly working firearm.. I've never had to force anything on my pistol to make it function as it should, and wont.... I've been known to man handle things from time to time but forcing something to function when clearly there's a problem sounds like an accident waiting to happen...

Doing what I have suggested is often necessary with LCPs because it helps to overcome friction in the system which sometimes prevents the LCP from chambering the first round from a fresh magazine. The procedure is definitely not producing "excessive force", as the slide is subjected to a lot more force when firing the pistol.

+1. I have never had a single issue with my LCP, once I started racking the slide, well.....hard. I rack the slide of the LCP harder than the SR9C or the SR1911. I do not have to do it as much now since I have 500 rounds through it and I quit buying the Winchester rounds witht the squared off bullets.
