New LCP II with major problem

After reading all of the good and not-so-good reviews here on the LCP II I took the plunge and bought a new one. I disassembled and cleaned it, lubed the rails with a little grease, then took it to the range. The first 14 rounds were perfect. Then, on the 4th round of the third magazine the trigger froze. I was unable to pull it to the rear. After releasing the trigger and carefully depressing the trigger safety, which is what was keeping the trigger from moving, the trigger would move to the rear, but it would not engage the hammer. I was squeezing the trigger and I could see that the hammer was all the way back, not half cocked, but the trigger was not releasing the hammer. When I racked the slide and ejected the current round the gun would fire normally until the magazine was empty. This happened on each subsequent magazine, usually the second through the fourth round is where the problem occurred. I cannot replicate it by racking the slide on an empty magazine.

Has anyone else seen this?

Ruger is closed today but they are getting a call tomorrow.

Hi All,
Came her looking for an answer to my problem and found it right away!!!! I bought a LCP II and first time I ever fired it was during my off-duty qualifications. I loved the way it handled and shot a perfect score 20 out of 20 on the target. Came home and cleaned it then loaded my carry ammo... Federal Hydro-Shock 90gr Personal Defense and just like I've read they cause a misfeed. So as it looks like it has no problem with round nose target rounds, just the open hollow points. Can anyone recommend a good personal defense round that won't cause malfuntions??
An LCPII that is functioning as designed will feed all of the popular defensive loads out there, including the Hydra-Shok.

Call Ruger CS, explain the problem and ask for a return shipping label. They will make it right and the turn around time will be quick.

Just remember in .380, if it expands it won't penetrate and if it penetrates, if won't expand.

What seery said. Ruger CS is legendary for prompt service.
I imagine Ruger will want your LCP II back posthaste, Jim. What you need to find out is whether they can return it to you without having to send it to your local FFL. If they do have to send it to your local FFL, find out if they'll cover the transfer fee for you.
Definitely ask about covering the transfer fee. If they send a new replacement gun, the fee might be more than if the FFL just handles a return. For me the difference is $5 and $55. They will cover it only if you ask.

Check out the Lehigh extended penetration round. Looks like the ARX round but with solid copper bullet. Through denim, consistently gets 15 inch penetration.

I'm reading a lot of good news on Black Hills HoneyBadger ammo. I'm going to buy a box to test!

For little guns, I recommend avoiding grease and go with plenty of light oil until it's broken in.

I believe the honey badger uses the same bullets as the Lehigh XD and XP. I assume their own casing, primers and powder.

I use lcp stingers in mine and, knock wood, have had not any issues. I have not oiled it yet, as it still feels good. only cleaned the barrel. sometimes oiling a .22 is not the best idea as it is a dirty round. the lcp is the only one I use. Rob
