My pistols with "bling"

For a little while now I've been using the 23kt real gold inlay from Brownells on some of my pistols. I don't know why, but I liked the look of a little bling on some of my pistols....

The Combat Commander was my work pistol for quite a few years, from quite a few years ago, the Ruger MkII was the NRA edition that I've never fired, just pimped it out to show all the engravings. The pics are before I cleaned it all up, so it's still a little sloppy on the inlay.

Nice looking work! Can you explain how that's done? I've got a few weapons I would like to do something kinda like that....
Thanks,

Go to www.brownells.com and do a search for "Gold Lode". It comes in a kit and it's a cinch to use. If you've got a dark finished gun with good, sharp lettering or engraving, the gold finish will really make it pop out. It should be under $20 for the kit, which should do several guns.

Does anybody know if there is a supplier for different colored "paints" to contrast other rifles or pistols? I've seen people paint the engraved writing/rollmarks on their guns, but I'm not sure how well it would stand up to abuse. I'd like to find something in dark grey. and a little red.

MP, you are a true craftsman & I really admire your work. The only problem I have with it, after spending the time to do the painstaking work, I wouldn't want to shoot them.

Paint made for automobile engines work. Appliance paint works well, too. It might take several coats to make the color stand out. The gun "black" wants to show thru. You need to make sure you remove all oil residue, first.

I was starting to think engine paints too. Might have to browse the aisle at Napa and see if I can find what I'm after.

It all looks good and sounds good but is this just for show, or will it stand up to regular cleanings and wipe downs on a regular basis?

Absolutely. Duracoat is made for this. Check http://www.duracoat-finishes.com/

You can also do a youtube search for duracoat to see it in action.

I hope this helps.
