More LCP Jams

I've had three jams out of 100 rounds. Empty round still retained in extractor, with new round stuck underneath and part way into the barrel when action tried to close. Was using Magtech and Remington umc fmjs. Was switching back and forth between the two brands, so not sure which or if both brands jammed, but when I finished off the last of the 20 or so rounds of Magtech, didn't have a problem. Odd thing was, all three jams were the next to last round fired from the mag. Had previously disassembled, and cleaned/oiled the mag. along with the gun. Fired case shipped with the LCP dated 7/22/08, so should be the latest version per previous postings here. Going to stick to Magtech for the next 100 rounds, and see what happens.

Hi leathersmith, welcome to the forum! I think your idea of sticking to one brand of ammo is wise, just to eliminate some of the variables. If it works for a couple hundred rounds with the Magtech, then try some other brands. Sometimes it takes rounds down the barrel to break in certain weapons, I personally think they should be "broken in" before they leave the factory. Anyway, let us know what happens :)
Regards,
Mike
I'm curious. I'm still relatively new to shooting. Why shoot lots of different types of ammo? I've just shot my practice and carry ammo. What am I missing?

Well Howard, I like to know what works in my weapon and what doesn't. I travel quite a bit (not so much @ $3.75 gallon gas) and it's good to know if for some reason I run out of ammo and can't find what I usually use, I can buy another brand that I know will work. I have also found there can be quite a difference in performance between brands, won't know till you shoot 'em... :)
I have heard COUNTLESS reports that the LCP hates Remington UMC specifically. I'm willing to bet your jams were not the magtech.

I can buy that, some lcp's don't like American Eagle ammo. Can't hardly find it around my area anyway, so it is not big deal. but will agree it is best to know what rounds don't do well in any handgun. but once I find rounds that work perfect, I just stick with them, even if it costs me a few more cents per round, just to avoid the frustration more than anything. My little lcp shoots with no issues, Corbon DPX, Rem Golden sabre (a darn good round ). PMC and cci blazer (which I just bought a 1000 rounds of), Also mag-tech works great also If my lcp didn't shoot Ameridcan eagel rounds good but shoots the rest perfect, I would not be concerned about sending it back, but when you have a gun that maybe screws up with 3 or 4 different b rand,s then I think it needs to go back, don't care who makes it

Rem UMC is all I have used so far 100 rounds, not one problem.
Here's my update on my jamming problems. Went to the range, with the intention of checking for jams with magtech ammo only. (See previous post) Result was after approx. 35 trouble free rounds, the trigger/hammer link unhooked, end of test. Took gun apart and reconnected. Two rounds and unhooked again. So called Ruger and gun going back when the paperwork arrives. They were reluctant to send me the parts, so hopefully they want to do some additional upgrades? Seems to me, the composite material that the grip frame is constructed of of, is a little too flexible in the area where the trigger/hammer links put stress on, during firing. A little lateral flex, and the trigger pivot slips out of the trigger bar.

Funny you should mention the disconnect of the trigger / hammer. I bought a brand New LCP on 9/24 and when I got my first chance to play with it there was no trigger hammer connect. Sent it back through the dealer the next day. Have not had the chance to shoot yet......... :
I have run 100 rounds of American Eagle with out a glitch and about 50 rounds of Winchester with no problems..in fact I haven't had a jam with my LCP or SR9 since I bought them..
My LCP jams w/ PMC ammo, bad. Slide won't even close all the way. I stick with WWB in my LCP and my P95 and never have to worry. I'm to the point, I won't even try other ammo (other than my PD ammo).
Dang! I haven't yet been able to get mine to jam.
I have used three different brands of ammo, both JHP and FMJ.
Oh well, maybe later... :-\

Oh, darn the luck! :D
I too, find that my LCP tends to malfunction with Remington ammo. The slide doesn't go into battery, stopping about 1/32d from lockup.

Recently, I bought a Lee Factory Crimp die and ran a box of Rem hollow points through it. My calipers showed that the Remington ammo was sized down about 5/10Kths. That was enough. Now, the little pistol runs good with that ammo.

I wrote it up over at my blog, which you can find here. http://pawpawshouse.blogspot.com/2008/09/ruger-lcp.html

A commenter on that blog post referred me here, and I'll lurk a bit. Thanks for the invite.

That commenter be me. ;D Glad you joined us.
Went to the range today and shot some Fiocchi, Speer Gold Dot, and Hornady with no jams. I will a little surprised. My first trip to the range I had several jams. Guess it just needed to be broken in.
Just went to the range today. My LCP shot Fiocchi, Hornady and Speer Gold Dots just fine. Didn't jam at all today unlike my first trip to the range.

More rounds down range the better the gun will get to. keep it lubed and shoot it like you stole it..
Had a jam with my LCP yesterday. While shooting Rem UMC 88gr JHP, one live round stuck in the chamber. Could not free it even when disassembled. Finally took it home and gave it a liberal coating of oil down the barrel and around the chamber and finally worked it loose. I don't like working and prying on live rounds and was just about to give up and take it to a gunsmith when it popped loose. This is with about 200 rounds of wwb and 20 rounds of the UMC JHP through it.
My LCP jams quite frequently at the range. I have been told that this is because I am still breaking 'er in. Guess I need to shoot more often and see! ;D
