You are the first person i ever heard say this, and i had my wife practice.... wow thats amazing! Pushing with the firing hand makes it seem more natural to do. Thanks
Glad you found this technique usefull. I am always surprised how many folks do not know how to properly cyle the slide of a semi-auto pistol. The other common mistake is "riding the slide" back into battery as opposed to a clean release of the slide when it is fully recessed........just let her go!

I tried the "push" technique today (with the LCP Max)...and it seemed to me the exact same thing as the old fashioned "pull" technique. I needed to expend the same effort resisting the push with the hand on the slide as I would have had I just pulled it, and in fact when you pull the slide back you are also pushing the gun forward with your other hand, same exact thing different words. It would be different if the gun was in a vise and then i could simply push it without expending the same effort to resist the push, or vice versa if i just wanted to pull it. But when you hold the gun in your hands you still need to grip the slide with the same strength either way. That's the hard part, getting a good grip on the slide. People who say it's much easier, maybe u r doing something different than me I dunno.

Try this......with your weak hand cover the entire slide(weak hand should be perpendicular to slide), now grip the slide firmly with all fingers except the thumb and push the strong hand forward, holding the frame firmly. It takes a bit of practice but it usually helps.

That trick doesn't seem to work 4 me, brother, but it doesn't matter as i've switched to revolvers anyway, even tho i tried out the LCP Max again yesterday, just a little, after it was returned to me for the second time, this time from the gunsmith where the store sent it. They said they did nothing to it because it worked when they tried it. They suggested i send it back to Ruger if i have any more trouble with it. It was a waste of money for me.

Peace of mind is important and if you don't trust the gun, it becomes of no use to you. As you know, you can't go wrong with a revolver, it goes bang every time! I carry my j frame .38 the majority of the time also, except for hot weather where the LCP slides into my shorts pocket.

I'm glad to have read this and other threads about the Lcp Max. I was seriously considering trading the Lcp Custom I bought several years ago on one mainly for the new trigger and increased magazine capacity.

After reading these threads I decided instead to install an Mcarbo trigger spring kit and live with the 6 +1 ammo capacity. My pistol has worked perfectly and the trigger spring kit is a fantastic upgrade although the 2 click trigger reset isn't my favorite.

I did reinstall the original trigger reset spring because the Mcarbo worked but felt alot weaker than the factory reset spring. The pull weight is much lighter but still heavy enough that I won't worry about carrying in the pocket or iwb with a round chambered.

I'll go out on a limb and state that I really like my Max. Not one failure in maybe 300 rounds of ball with a couple of different defensive loads. Only thing it won't feed is that weird copper and plastic bullet stuff Ruger marketed for awhile. When new, pistol shot about 6 inches low at 7-10 yards. Sent it back to Ruger and they replaced the slide and barrel. 2 week turnaround. Now hits spot on and is surprisingly accurate for a tiny gun. MAX is about the biggest pistol I can carry at work due to clothing requirements. Off work I prefer my XDS. My only beef- the MAX is loose and rattles. Lot's of clearance between slide and frame. Was the same with old slide and barrel. Anyone else experience this?

I received my new slide, barrel and basically a whole new upper. It runs great now, no jambs with any ammo. The only negative is it won't lock back on the last round. Ruger said if I sent it back they would fix it but I'm not sure big it's that important.

That was one of my complaints when I sent mine back to Ruger. Still won't lock back consistently. Mag follower needs redesign to engage slide stop.
That's kinda what I thought might happen by the way it's designed. For me reliable cycling was the crucial thing and now it seems to do that so I guess that's enough
