I'm getting ready to send my little pocket canon back to Ruger for the recall. Has anyone got their's back, if so how does it compare to before the recall, especially trigger pull?

Re: LCP "Post" Recall Thread

OK we will make this the POST-RECALL sticky thread - in other words, the place to post feedback AFTER you've got your LCP back from the recall or to pose questions to those who have had their guns returned.

We've now got two recall threads in play in this (General Discussion) room. This one is intended for posting AFTER after UPS returns your LCP - what did they do, how does it look/fire etc. Ditto for those who want to know what was done to their fellow members' guns.

Since this is a sticky, posts in this thread should be limted to information/questions on what was done to the member's gun rather than "can't wait until mine comes back or "I'll be sending mine in soon" posts. Such posts will be deleted to make it easier for folks to navigate through the thread without having to separate the wheat from the chaff.

If your LCP is on its way to Ruger (as part of the recall) or have questions about how to get it there, when will you get it back, why is it taking so long, etc. this is NOT the thread to be posting in. Instead, you are referred to:

Thanks, the mods.

Re: LCP Post-Recall Thread (gun received, satisfaction feedback)

I got a replacement lcp last week with all the fixes. No real difference that I can tell in the trigger pull. I have not had a chance to get to the range, but it hand cycles very well. I will post more after I go to the range.

When you say replacement,do you mean that the gun you received is not the same serial # that you sent in?

Re: Part II LCP Recall Thread - Gun back? Then here's where to post

Posted today by RWSNC in the wrong thread by mistake. Copy and pasted here:

(From RWSNC) Hang in there. UPS just dropped off my returned/reworked LCP. It took 9 days from the day that I dropped my package off at the local UPS store and back to my door.

It looks, feels and dry fires the same to me. I'll have to wait and see how it does on the range. The extension and new magazine is nice. They also sent a hat and parts list. Haven't had a chance to go over it yet to figure out what they did to fix the hammer problem.

I'm satisfied and kudos to Ruger.

Amended:

Disassembled the magazine, cleaned and reassembled it. The extension is a little smaller than Pearces. Honestly, to me, they're both nice.

Upon inspection, I can't say as I see anything different accept the newly stamped "diamond" on the frame.

They also included a new exploded view and parts list and the ONLY thing that I can see that's different between the original and new view is they have added a spacer (part # 36) on the left side of the hammer. Although the firing pin looks identical, it must be different because it has a different part # now.

Re: Part II LCP Recall Thread - Gun back? Then here's where to post

Got mine back 12-3-08 sent it in on 10-13- for repairs. While it was there they performed the recall. They repaired the barrel, replaced the slide, extractor, and hold upon button. I was having problems with it jamming on golden sabres. I put 25 rounds of gs through it and it performed flawlessly. I did not feel any difference with the trigger. I was not expecting them to change the slide, but glad they did because mine was showing holster wear. My gun is better than new now and with the new mag with finger extension, hat and $25.00 gift cert I am more than pleased. This only enforces my faith in a great American company like RUGER.

Hello all - Nice forum you have here - I've been lurking for a few weeks. I ordered my LCP about 3 weeks ago - #18 on the dealer back order list. I almost bought the Kel tec. Well today was the day - They got about 80 of them - all new from factory "recall completed” sn 370x guns. 279.00 out the door. It could be a good Christmas for you guys that are waiting.
Now for some accessories!

Hi JJK, welcome to the forum! I have a favor I need to ask you, would you make a post on this thread about your LCP?

I have a few questions I would like to ask you, but I would rather do it on that thread.
Thanks,
Mike

Hey, thanks JJK! What I wanted to know is the pistol you have numbered 370-XXXX with the diamond stamped on it or is it numbered #371-XXXX?
Thanks,

370.xxx with a diamond stamp - apperently all of them (this dealer) are like this.
Big gun store in southern Maine (Hint - Not Cabela's and not LL Bean.)

I think I may have a record LCP recall turn around!!!!

I dropped off my LCP at a UPS hub late Monday afternoon, Dec 1st. It was returned today, Friday, Dec 5th. A FOUR day turn around!!!

Okay... I don't have it in hand just yet, still a delivery attempt was made. UPS attempted delivery this afternoon and I was not at home. I'm waiting on a call from the hub telling me I can pick it up after 1900 tonight.

Thanks for the great service Ruger... it don't get any better!!!

All I can say is a ton of bricks is a whole lot of ammo, maybe not rapid fire, but effective non the less with good brick placement.... :D

Okay... the little pocket canon is home after a "four" day turn around!!!

First impressions are that the trigger pull is lighter, smoother and not as long as I remember. The Ruger finger extension is a better fit than the Pearce, but not as long. I'll post up a range report as soon as I can.

An early Christmas present via UPS next day air....

The little pocket canon, a new Ruger box, a LCP hat, a mag with extension and a thank you letter...

The difference between Pearce's and Ruger's finger extensions is obvious...

AZ, I bet you have just sleep awhile while your little lcp was being repaired. I just don't think Ruger did one thing to the trigger pull lenght or poundage. Ruger to my knowledge has never stated this area was an issue that needed attention. They recalled these lcps for one reason and that was the drop safety issue and that involves one part change and 99% will never see what that change was for it is buried down inside the grip.

My question to you is can you now "not short stroke it" like us used to be able to do on the lcp By that I mean before if you short stroked it, you at least had to rerack the slide at least a 1/4" to reset the hammer block. Can u now short stroke it and then just release up on the trigger and pull it to go bang without having the rerack the slide.

Kt when they re done their hammer block has eliminated th short stroke possability, I am hopeing the ruger is the same way. It's not a safety issue but a nice mod change.

Sleep??? I'm missing your point and no, I never said it was part of the recall... what I said is that it "seemed" lighter, smoother and not as long of a pull.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "short stroke it". Just call me old fashioned or whatever, I just rack the slide back when I want to cock my semi autos....

Jeff Quinn's post-recall article:

http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-LCP2.htm

Note Jeff's comment on any change to the trigger pull:

...."The trigger pull on the updated gun is still very smooth, like the earlier LCP, but has a slightly heavier trigger pull weight. It still is a very good pull, measuring five pounds, ten ounces, and again, is very smooth to operate. That is only four ounces heavier than my other LCP measured when new, so the trigger pull was really not adversely affected at all, as I had anticipated that it might be."

LCP Range Report ~ Post Recall

Okay gang... as promised, here is my "unscientific" range report for LCP #370-015XX, purchased new on Mar 13, 2008. There really is not that much to report.

As I said in my post above when I got my little pocket canon back and dry fired it... "first impressions are that the trigger pull is lighter, smoother and not as long as I remember", but then that's just me.

The barrel did not come back blued and to my eyes the only obvious changes are the new style slide release and the diamond stamp. I can't tell if the barrel was reworked to address the issues some people were having with certain brands of ammo. My gun was not test fired before it was returned back to me.

The gun shot as well as it did before it's trip back to Prescott, AZ.
I used both the Ruger and Pearce finger extensions. I like the Pearce extension better because it is a little longer and felt better in my hand. It feels like a different gun with the extension. To be honest, the Ruger extension fits and looks better, but I still prefer the Pearce when shooting.

I shot 86 rounds total. Ammo used was the same as I've always shot prior to the recall with no malfunctions...

- Remington Golden Saber 102 gr BJHP (12 rounds)
- Cor-Bon DPX 80 gr HP (12rounds)
- Cor-Bon 90 gr JHP (12 rounds)
- WWB 95 gr BEB (50 rounds)

I won't go into accuracy results because it's subjective and everyone's skills vary. All I'll say is that I had no problem killing the BG on a paper target @ 7 yards.

Well, that's it and as i said above, there's really not much to report from before I sent it back. I had no malfunctions before the recall or after.

I do have a question for others that send in there early make LCP's that have the peening issue... did Ruger re-mill the area where the peening occurs? I had mine re-milled shortly after buying it last March, so I can't answer that question.

Ammo used in this report....

did they send that new serial numbered lcp directly back to you or did you have to go through a FFL dealer to reresigter it???
