I know the compact Americans are fairly new on the market, but does anyone have a suggestion for a holster? I'd like to take mine on horseback and eventually carry conceal (once I finish getting my permit). My cop friends/coworkers suggest Safariland or FOBUS, seeing as that is their standard duty gear and they tend to like them.

Any other suggestions? It's a bit overwhelming figuring out which one will fit my pistol.

Nice! Thanks Rayzer

It seems like it could just pop out of that holster, do they tend to stay in pretty well? I'd hate for it to fall out on the trail (the ride can get a little bumpy).

Check out Alien Gear holsters, they are very comfortable to wear in the summer and winter and very concilable.

I was thinking of that too. Although any molded holster (leather or kydex) will provide a reasonable amount of retention, you, on horseback, would probably want a thumb break belt slide for best retention (a strap over the top of the slide snapped shut). I only offered the CrossBreed since they had specifically mentioned your gun. The other manufacturers may not be out with that particular gun's holster at this time. Keep checking Galco for your American Compact 9mm listing. They have many styles.

Here's one from DeSantis that would provide good retention on the trail for your gun:

It seems that CrossBreed is the only one that makes holsters for the Compact at the moment. I sent an email to Safariland asking if their duty holsters that are suited for the regular American would fit the compact, but alas no answer. I might have to try to give them a call. I will keep an eye out on the sites you have listed to see when they might come out with holsters for the compact.

In short order all the major (and minor) makers will have a specific holster for the American Compact 9. And you will no doubt have several different styles in your collection!

Well I went ahead and ordered a holster from Safariland after some convincing/advice from a friend of mine. It fits like a glove! The barrel doesn't reach the end but that doesn't seem to interfere with it at all. I walked around all day in my house with it one while doing some chores, its very comfortable to boot. Nice smooth draw and clicks right back in.

Is that a paddle holster?--I can't be sure from the picture. Would be a little worried that riding a horse, especially western-style saddle, might work the paddle up and out of the pants. For riding, would use a sturdy belt-loop style. Decent kydex types with a solid "click" into the trigger guard and adjusted somewhat tighter than necessary for household and gardening activities should be secure. Doesn't make much difference, though, since you will, like the rest of us, be acquiring enough holsters to fill a small box and then a much larger box! :)

It came with both options, I noticed on the paddle option there is a hook of sorts that grabs on to the underside of the belt so the holster can't be pulled off, it takes some force and manipulation between the paddle and actual holster to get it off of my belt. I like that it covers most of the gun, especially the trigger and safety so I don't have to worry about those getting caught on anything.
Yes I will probably have to get a conceal holster for it next!

I have been using a DeSantis SOF-TUCK Holster #: 106NAI4Z0 UPC #: 792695310488 since Jan'16. It fits my RAP compact 9mm exactly. I replaced plastic clip with an UltiClip so it cannot come off belt and it also swivels. Secure enough for riding motorcycle. Tuckable and conceals well. Only negative is no sweat shield but not a concern for me.

Just checked in and saw this post on ruger american compact 9mm.

I will intro myself later on, but for now wanted to add an update to this post.

Doing research on holsters for ruger american compact 9mm, and came across these two blade-tech holsters:

Blade-tech total eclipse ambidextrous
and
blade-tech revolution appendix, right hand.

Blade-tech also makes a matching
double cloake magazine carrier.

Available through cabela's, amazon, midwayusa, and other suppliers.

Would like to know how other members that may have purchased and used the blade-tech brand holsters, would rate them.
