Gander Mountain vs. Cabelas?

I was kinda confused the other day. Living in Illinois, the only time I can carry legally is when I travel to other states(that accept my Permits). Luckily, I live on the Indiana border,so Im always in Indiana, anyway my question is I usually always go to cabelas(cuz its close to me), and they have a sign on the front door that states, all firearms need to be checked in at front desk, And in smaller text under that it says something like not pertaining to people with conceal carry permits. I went to Gander Mountain and they have a sign on their doors also that says all firearms need to be checked in, but no speak of conceal carry. Does that mean you have to walk up to the front desk and tell them I got a gun? I personally, didnt say anything--I figured that what they didnt know wont hurt them :)

The Gander Mt here in Columbus has the same small print favorable to CC. I go to the Cabals in Wheeling WV but have not noticed the small print on their sign. I will have to pay attention to that the next time I go over there. There is a store here in Columbus that has about 4 different doors to enter. There is a half ass sign on one of the side doors that states no fire arms, but not on any of the other doors. I make it a point to enter the center door with no such negative instructions and take my chances. I recall hearing that if the store does not display a correct posting then you are OK to ignore the post. I am thinking that they only posted it on one out of 6 doors to appease someone as the two main entrances have NO such anti gun request.
Gander Mountain in Canton, OH has concealed carry exemption.

Uh, Dallas Pike to be exact... ;D
I grew up about four miles to the East. There was only a truck stop there until about five years ago. Now there is a whole town being built around Cabala's.

That is possably their store policy, certainly not breaking any state laws if you have a concealed carry permit. Screw um, just shut your mouth and say nothing They do not have the right to search you and if you want to walk into gander or cabelas with a lone ranger rig on your side be prepared to be challenged by staff. Otherwise if it is concealed no one will know.

You have to realize that alot of "idiots" have concealed carry permits that shoud not even own a damn gun, so rest assured they will be the ones coming in with loaded guns etc and screwing up evertyhing for us good guys. I owned a gun business for 40 years and trust me,I had [email protected]#heads in there with waist band handguns showing and knowing that person was a dickhead, even made me nervous. Now at Gander or cabelas. they may look at everyone as a [email protected]#head.

Don't ask don't tell, just reverse that slogan and you are good to go as far as I am concerned.

PS: as a sidenote in my business, the mens restroom still has the 38 spl hole in the door where a customer was in there doing his thing and evidently playing with his revolver at the same time and shot a hole right through the mens door. I kept a sign in their after that pointing to the hole , with a statement: saying.

GET YOUR GUN OFF SOME WHERE ELSE PREFERABLY IN YOUR OWN HOME!!!

Looks wise,I favor Cabelas over gander. darn nice store.
One of my good friends carries in a "men's purse" type of bag. He carries a lot of stuff around including his full size 1911.

He was in Cabelas the other day and was approached by a clerk. "Do you have a gun in there, sir?" - she asked.

"Yes I do", he replied.

He was told to check in at the front desk right away.

"I have a concealed carry permit." - he replied.

"Oh" - the clerk replied. "I thought that perhaps you were returning a gun in a gun case or something." "I'm sorry for any misunderstanding" - she said.

"Go right ahead with your visit" - she said. "You're more than welcome here."

I have a friend who lives very close to a gander mountain store. He says they are high on their prices. He says he orders from cabelas and even with shipping charges, comes out cheaper.
I have found that most of those signs refer to individuals bringing guns in for repair or trade. Even our local Academy Sports posted a sign at the beginning of hunting season stating if you have a firearms please check at the customer service desk.

I walk right in with elsie in my pocket. The staff at the gun counter know I carry, never said anything to me about not beng able to.
+ 1 tawcat -- I believe the signs are for people bringing firearms into the store enroute to the gunsmith. They don't want a people walking all over the store with guns. Good reason as you know some idiot would have an accidental discharge in the store.

Don't know what the state laws are in this state, but there ARE some states where IF they properly post "Do Not Carry", a carry in that place IS a violation of state law (sort of like the Tresspass laws).
any and all of the Gander Mountain stores I've been to (limited to Michigan) have the "check firearms at front unless carrying under CPL" sign Cabelas I don't recall seeing a sign at all.
and in Grand Junction Co a man brought a rifle into a gun store apparently to trade ? and an employees (retired police chief) picked it up and it "accidentally" discharged into another employee......which is why we are taught a gun is always loaded..

The Cabelas in PA has signs saying that guns must be checked but that it does not apply to CCW holders.
