Anyone using it?

The guys at my gun shop said it is kind of on the cheaper side, like MagTech, but I've been using only MagTech so I've not tried Indy nor do I know if it will fit properly. It looks the same and I have no calipers to test case length.

This is just for Range.. I have Golden Sabers for SD, and I've test fired a few of those already w/out failure. :)

Yes, they were $16, so same rough price as WWB or Magtech. I think maybe $1 more because of buying them AT a range instead of at a sporting good store. :) The guys said they are great for plinking and range use. They are FMJ, not HP (so not for SD).

Hey Dog, I've shot close to 300 of these out of my LCP, with the old barrel, every once in a while I had a round not seat all the way in the chamber. Got my calipers out and measured all of them, then carried only the shortest ones. With the new barrel I have had zero problems in 200 rounds down the tube. As far as FMJ's not being for self defense, with winter coming up, I think a person would need as much penetration as possible with the heavier clothing being in use. Even this summer, I was staggering HP - FMJ - HP and so on...

Mike

So some cartridges were longer than others, even from the same box?!?!??! ???
Yep, have you ever measured them? I think Independence is an import from somewhere (probably south of the border) and their quality control is not the best. I have measured several boxes of Speer Lawman rounds and found not a whole lot of difference in OAL. With the old barrel it didn't take much to keep the round from seating, a couple of thousandth difference in lenght would cause problems. With the new barrel, I found that the OAL can be longer than what will fit in the magazine, problem solved!

I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time but isn't Independence factory relaoded ammo? That doesn't make it bad if it shoots good and is safe. Georgia Arms is factory reloaded ammo and it's fine for the range.

Well, Rich I remember reading somewhere that Independence is loaded by Aguilar (SP), like you say, won't be the last time I'm wrong.... :) I'm not saying Aguilar is bad ammo, I just noticed a bit of a variance in the OAL. With the new barrel from Ruger, I have had zero problems, with any ammo! Even with my handloads using Speer Gold Dot HP's, I've had no problems, other than I can't load to Speer's spec of .970 OAL, won't fit in my mag, it will fit in the new barrel however....

Thanks Mike. I'd like to send you a few of the 95 grain Win hollow base bullets I got from Cheyenne Brass. I'd be interested in knowing how they function in your barrel and mag. I think with the longer OAL's, the problem is more with the LCP mags than with the barrels, at least with the newer LCP barrels. I don't think I have the newer barrel and I have no problem with the Win bullet and an OAL of .975 but if I exceed that, they snag in the mag but seat fine in the barrel. OAL's and whether or not they function properly in the LCP is highly dependent on the bullet design, would you agree?

PS: I know nothing about Aguilar ammo, never tried the stuff.

I used Independence the last time I shot my LCP and it was fine. Didn't have any problems in it at all. I used two boxes. I have already bought 2 more for my next time out.

I will try the Independence out at the range in a few days, too.

But when you guys say it has problems, you mean the cartridge is too long thus preventing the chamber from properly closing and the slide from properly seating forward all the way. RIGHT?

Will this cause a problem if it happens? I don't want to try it out and then break my new LCP in some irreversible way. The day before I take my CHL test, no less... :(

Oh yeah, I would defiantly agree! FMJ can be OAL of close to .970 and still fit in the mag. The Speer Gold Dot has a flatter, ah, oh hell, I can't remember what they call it, anyway the side of the bullet is straight up until it curves into the hollow point more so than any FMJ I have looked at. I can have a MFJ with the same OAL as a Gold Dot, and it works great. The Gold Dot won't even fit in the mag at the same OAL as the FMJ. Just goes to show you, you have to check what you have got to make sure it works in the gun you have got. :)

Hey Dog, you are not going to break your LCP, not to worry! :) I really didn't have a problem, it's just that some of the rounds wouldn't fully seat in my barrel, all I had to do was give a little push on the slide (I know you know AR-15's, can you say forward assist? :) ) Try a few rounds by dropping them in your barrel (after you remove the barrel), if they seat flush with the barrel hood, you have no problem.

Mike
